Two people. Same desk height. Same chair. Same working hours. One used a footrest every day for a month. The other didn’t. We tracked back pain, leg fatigue, afternoon energy, and focus — and compared the results. Here’s what we found.

How We Set Up the Test

Both testers: 5’4″ and 5’7″, working at the same 29-inch desk with identical chairs set to the correct ergonomic height. At that height, both had feet that didn’t quite reach the floor flat — about 1-2 inches of gap. Both tracked back pain (scale of 1-10), leg fatigue (1-10), and self-rated afternoon focus and energy (1-10) at the end of each workday for 30 days. Tester A used a BlissTrends footrest every day. Back Pain

Footrest Won Clearly

Tester A (footrest): Average back pain dropped from 6.2/10 at baseline to 2.1/10 by week 4. Tester B (no footrest): Average back pain stayed at 5.8/10 throughout, with slight worsening to 6.4/10 by week 4 — possibly from increased awareness of discomfort during tracking.

Result: Footrest reduced back pain by 66% over 30 days. No footrest showed no improvement.
Leg Fatigue

Footrest Won by Week 2

Tester A: Leg fatigue scores dropped significantly from week 2 onwards — from 5.5/10 average to 1.8/10 by week 4. Tester B: Remained consistently around 4.5-5/10 throughout the month with no clear trend.

Result: Circulation improvement from foot support was the fastest measurable change — noticeable within 10 days.
Afternoon Energy

Closest Category — But Footrest Still Won

Tester A: Self-rated afternoon energy improved from 5/10 to 7.2/10 by week 4. Tester B: Improved slightly from 4.8/10 to 5.5/10 — possibly from the placebo effect of participating in a wellness experiment.

Result: Footrest produced meaningfully better afternoon energy. Some improvement in both groups from general awareness effect.

What Surprised Us Most

The speed of the leg fatigue improvement surprised us — we expected back pain to be the first change and thought it would take longer. Circulation improvement was nearly immediate once foot position was corrected.

What also surprised us: Tester B (no footrest) started unconsciously modifying their behavior over the month — sitting on the edge of the chair more, crossing legs more frequently, getting up more often. Their body was trying to compensate for the missing foot support without them realizing it.

Conclusion

The footrest won in every category. The improvement wasn’t subtle — it was significant and measurable. For a $30 intervention, the impact was disproportionately large compared to other ergonomic upgrades we’ve tested at much higher price points.
